Local District Training
Online Local District Board Member Training
We are pleased to announce the availability of board member training that is now available online. Utah Code 17B-1-312 states that,
Each member of a board of trustees of a local district, elected or appointed… should, within one year after taking office, complete training…
This online training will enable all new board members to complete the required training at their own convenience. This training will also serve as a refresher course for existing board members and will be updated each year based on new legislation affecting local and special service districts. To complete this training, please follow the link below and select “Board Member Training 2018” from the course options.
Upon finishing the course a certificate of completion will be sent via email.
Representatives from the Office of the Utah State Auditor and the Utah Association of Special Districts (UASD) will continue to provide live training throughout the State for large groups, however, for those board members that are unable to attend these live training events in their area, we hope the online training provides a viable alternative to obtain the required training.
In addition, the Office conducts periodic in-person training sessions for local government financial leadership.
If you have previously started the old version of Board Member Training, the previous training steps are below.
1. Review the Little Manual for Local and Special Districts.
2. Review the Trustee Training PowerPoint presentations below (recommended). This summarizes many of the topics included in the Little Manual.
Financial Board Training – Calvin Bergmann – Updated 2018

3. Complete the Little Manual Comprehension Test and submit it to our office. Upon receiving a score of 75% (19 out of 25 correct) you will be sent a certificate of training completion.
