Local/Special Service District Board Member Training

Utah Code 17B-1-312 states:

Each member of a board of trustees of a local district shall, within one year after taking office, complete…training…

Our online course “District Board Member Training” satisfies this requirement. Access it at the link below:

Office of the State Auditor Online Training Portal

Upon finishing the course, a certificate of completion will automatically be sent via email.

Representatives from the Office of the State Auditor and the Utah Association of Special Districts provide occasional in-person training throughout the State for large groups. However, the online course is the primary method for board members to satisfy the board member training requirement.

Individuals who do not have internet access may complete the following steps to satisfy the board member training requirement:

1. Read the Little Manual for Local and Special Districts.

2. Review the in-person training PowerPoint presentations below (recommended).  These summarize many of the topics included in the Little Manual.

Financial Board Training – Calvin Bergmann, Office of the State Auditor – Updated 2018

Governance Board Training – LeGrand Bitter, Utah Association of Special Districts – Updated 2018

3. Complete the Little Manual Comprehension Test and submit it to our office. Upon receiving a score of 75% (19 out of 25 correct) you will be sent a certificate of training completion.
